Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says there is a scheme to sabotage his party's upcoming rally in Sokoto State.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Atiku alleged that the leadership of the Department of State Services (DSS) was gathering people to stage protests. He claimed the aim was to cause enough trouble for the state government to declare a curfew and stop the event from going ahead.

He said some of the would-be protesters were being assembled at an office on Koko Road, and that trucks had been sent to move people to different points in the city.

Atiku also accused the Sokoto State Government of denying the ADC access to public facilities and logistics, and charged the Tinubu administration with trying to weaken the opposition and steer Nigeria towards one-party rule.

He said he would still travel to Sokoto on Wednesday for the rally. There was no immediate response from the DSS or the Sokoto State Government, and none of Atiku's claims could be independently checked.
