Rilwan Olawale, a Lagos supporter of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, is a free man again after roughly seven days held by the Department of State Services (DSS).

His release was announced on Monday by Funso Doherty, the NDC's candidate for governor of Lagos State, who said he had visited Olawale over the weekend after he was freed.

Olawale was picked up in the early hours of 25 October by armed men who said they were DSS officers. No reason for his arrest has been made public, and no charge has been reported.

The day after the arrest, Obi called for his immediate release, describing the treatment of his supporters as disturbing and accusing the government of using intimidation against opponents. He said his campaign would remain peaceful.

The DSS has not commented publicly on the arrest or the release.
