The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, says the Nigeria Police Force is prepared for the 2027 general elections.

He spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the office of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, led by Leonardo Simao.

Disu said officers were being trained on election duties and on issues peculiar to the coming polls, and that the force would be ready to play its part even if voting began the next day.

He stressed that the police could not secure the elections on their own. Joint training has been held with the army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Customs, Immigration and the DSS. Officers are also being taught how to identify and assist voters with disabilities.

INEC has fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for 16 January 2027, with governorship and state assembly polls on 6 February.
