Police in Ondo State have opened an investigation into the death of Kayode Akinbolusere, a 46-year-old businessman from Igba who owned the Esther Estate development.

Akinbolusere, also known as Tolufe, died at his office on the afternoon of Thursday, 29 October. Police are treating it as a suspected suicide.

In a video recorded shortly before his death, which has since spread widely online, he said he had made a will leaving his property and assets to his first wife and their three children, and stressed that nobody had pressured him into making the recording. He also spoke about problems in his family life and his business.

The state police spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said officers from the Bolorunduro Division went to the scene after members of the public raised the alarm, and that no signs of violence were found during an initial check. Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered a full inquiry to establish the cause of death, and the body has been taken to the State Hospital mortuary. Police urged the public not to speculate.

His uncle, Femi Akinbolusere, said the way the businessman spoke about handing over his property worried the family, and that they want an autopsy to rule out any form of coercion.
