Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30, hours after a collision during a Spanish second-division match.

The incident happened deep into stoppage time of Monday's 2-2 draw between Tenerife and FC Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono came out to challenge for a loose ball, and his knee appeared to strike de Miguel in the chest. Owono was shown a red card, and the game was stopped soon afterwards.

Spanish media reported that de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest on the way to hospital and was taken to intensive care in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The club announced his death early on Tuesday, saying it was broken with grief and asking for privacy for his family.

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
