Suspected thugs have attacked supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) at a campaign rally in Delta State, leaving several people injured.
SaharaReporters reported that the rally took place in Asaba, the state capital, on Saturday, and that the Delta coordinator of the 'Obidient' movement, which backs NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, was stabbed with daggers. The coordinator's name and condition have not been made public, and PauseandPonderTV could not independently confirm the stabbing.
Other reports say the attackers assaulted supporters at the venue and damaged a car parked nearby. Some people lost their phones and other belongings as they ran for safety. In a video shared online, a man at the scene said they had come to campaign peacefully and not to fight anyone.
It is not clear who the attackers were or who sent them. No group has claimed responsibility, and the Delta State Police Command had not commented or announced any arrests at the time of publishing.
The attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents in the 2027 campaign. In the past two weeks, Obi's convoy was attacked in Calabar, ADC convoys were attacked in Kebbi, an APC rally in Lafia turned violent, and Omoyele Sowore's team was assaulted in Ado-Ekiti. Rights groups have urged the police to protect all parties and prosecute those responsible.
