INEC tells ECOWAS team it backs no party or candidate in 2027
PauseandPonderTV · Sat, 31 Oct 2026The commission says the voter register has passed 103 million names.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is not favouring any party or candidate in the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan gave the assurance in Abuja on Friday while hosting a pre-election fact-finding mission from ECOWAS, led by former Sierra Leonean Vice-President Victor Bockarie Foh.
Amupitan said the vote will hold across 8,809 registration areas in all 774 local government areas. More than 103 million people are now on the voter register, and the commission has completed nine of the 14 major legal milestones on its revised timetable.
He said voters will be accredited with fingerprint and facial checks, and results will be handled electronically through the eEC8A verification tool and the IReV results viewing portal.
INEC says it is also working with security agencies through the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. The ECOWAS team is assessing how ready Nigeria is and where the regional body can help.
