Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, has rejected the Ekiti State Police Command's account of what happened to him in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

Police said Sowore was not kidnapped, as early social media posts had claimed, but was caught up in a clash with some people at an eatery in the Dalimore area. They said he suffered minor injuries and was being treated at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore says there was no two-way fight. In his account, he and his team were set upon by thugs, and he accuses the police of playing down the violence. Photos show him with bandages on his hand and knee.

He has also accused the Ekiti State Government and the Department of State Services (DSS) of being behind the attack. Neither had publicly responded by Saturday morning.

Ekiti Commissioner of Police Michael Falade has ordered an investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.
