Lagos seals Surulere church over noise pollution after residents complain
PauseandPonderTV · Sun, 8 Nov 2026Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab says All Christians Gathering Ministry will stay shut until further notice.
The Lagos State Government on Sunday morning sealed a church in Surulere after neighbours complained about noise.
All Christians Gathering Ministry, at No. 1 Ishola Street, off Clegg, was locked up by officials of the state Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the action on X. He said officials looked into a resident's complaint, found it was valid, and confirmed that the church was breaking environmental rules and disturbing people living nearby.
"We will not tolerate environmental violations or any form of nuisance that disrupts the peace and well-being of residents," Wahab said. He added that the church would remain closed until further notice.
The government did not say what the church must do to reopen. The church had not commented publicly at the time of publishing.
Lagos has repeatedly shut churches, mosques, hotels and nightclubs over noise in recent years, and residents can report noise to the state environment authorities.
