The Oyo governor says Nigeria lacks ideas, not resources, and wants presidents to need support from every part of the country.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has launched his manifesto for the 2027 election in Abuja.

Makinde said the country's problems come mainly from a shortage of ideas among its leaders rather than a shortage of money. He promised to bring down the cost of living by lowering what it costs businesses to produce, and singled out high power and energy prices, which he said are driving some firms to neighbouring countries such as Benin.

He pledged to publish measurable targets within his first 100 days in office and to let the public judge his government against them.

On politics, he proposed changing the electoral rules so that presidential candidates would need wider support across ethnic, religious and party lines. He also called for a transitional government of national unity to discuss the country's political and constitutional future, and said he would not seek personal gain from that process.

Makinde criticised the federal government's handling of electricity, insecurity and the economy, and asked Nigerians to hold President Bola Tinubu to his promises on power supply.
