Gunmen have abducted a first-year student of Plateau State University (PLASU) from an off-campus residential area in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The gunmen struck at around 8:40pm on Saturday. She was with another young woman at the time, and another person was shot during the attack. The condition of the person who was shot has not been made public.
The university management confirmed it had been told of the shooting and said it was the second incident of its kind in the area in four weeks.
PLASU says only about 1,000 of its nearly 20,000 students can be housed on campus, leaving most to live in nearby communities. It says it is working to build more hostels and will keep talking to the authorities about security.
Students have appealed to security agencies to rescue their colleague quickly. The Plateau State Police Command had not commented by the time of reporting.
