The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will not put forward its own presidential candidate in 2027 and will instead campaign for President Bola Tinubu, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has confirmed.

Soludo restated the party's support for Tinubu at APGA's national campaign launch at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Friday. He said the party would work to deliver half of Anambra's votes to the President, arguing that a strong showing would help the state win more federal projects. APGA will still seek votes for its own National Assembly and state assembly candidates.

It is a big target. In the 2023 election, Tinubu won just 5,111 votes in Anambra, less than 1 per cent of the valid votes, while Peter Obi, a former APGA governor of the state, won 584,621. Obi is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

On the same day in Uyo, Tinubu took a swipe at Obi, saying the former governor failed to tackle erosion in Anambra while he, as governor of Lagos, had taken on the Atlantic Ocean. Vice President Kashim Shettima accused Obi of quoting unreliable figures. Obi had not responded at the time of publishing.

Tinubu also announced approval for the Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom after Governor Umo Eno promised him two million votes, though no funding plan or start date was given. Presidential and National Assembly elections are set for 16 January 2027.
