Police in Delta State say they have killed two suspected kidnappers and armed robbers during a shoot-out in a forest in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe said officers from the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, working with local vigilantes, moved on a suspected hideout in the forest at Ekrerhavwe at about 8:35pm on Saturday, 31 October.
He said the suspects opened fire when they saw the officers, leading to a gun battle. Two of them were hit and were confirmed dead at a hospital.
An AK-47 rifle, 26 live cartridges and two masks were found at the scene. Other members of the gang escaped into the forest, and the police say efforts to track them down are continuing.
