The number of attacks recorded across Nigeria's military operation zones dropped by 73.3 per cent in October, according to Defence Headquarters.

Director of Defence Media Operations Major General Michael Onoja told journalists in Abuja on Friday that troops logged 98 attacks last month, down from 367 the month before.

He said soldiers killed more than 217 terrorists and other criminals during the month, arrested 333 suspects and rescued 349 people who had been kidnapped. Seventy insurgents surrendered.

Troops also recovered 105 firearms and 3,174 rounds of ammunition, seized 756,837 litres of stolen crude and refined products, and destroyed 49 illegal refining sites.

Operation Enduring Peace saw the most attacks in October with 29, followed by Operation Hadin Kai with 27 and Operation Fansan Yamma with 24. Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede has promised to step up the hunt for those behind recent killings in Taraba State.
