Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will undergo surgery on his left knee, putting his place in Nigeria's next two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in doubt.

His club, Galatasaray, said he strained the knee during their 2-0 Champions League win over VfB Stuttgart this week, and a scan found a loose body inside the joint. He is due to have a keyhole (arthroscopic) operation on Saturday at a hospital in Istanbul, carried out by the club's doctor, Yener İnce.

Galatasaray have not said how long he will be out. He has already been left out of their league game against Amed on Saturday. The club also reported a moderate to advanced strain, with bleeding, in his right adductor (inner thigh) muscle.

Nigeria host Tanzania in Uyo on 13 November and travel for the return game on 17 November in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Osimhen also missed the first two qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in September.

His absence would be a big blow for the Super Eagles, for whom he is the leading striker.
