President Bola Tinubu has held a meeting with a delegation of leaders from the Middle Belt and North Central, led by former Defence Minister General Theophilus Danjuma (retd), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation included Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, former Chief of Army Staff Ishaya Bamaiyi, businessman Thomas Etuh and Dr Poju Bitrus. Defence Minister Christopher Musa also attended.
The meeting was made public on Friday by the President's adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, but he did not say what was discussed or whether any agreements were reached.
Danjuma is one of the most respected elder statesmen from the region and has in the past been an outspoken critic of the government over killings in the Middle Belt.
The meeting comes as both the APC and the opposition parties compete for support in the North Central ahead of the 2027 elections, and as Plateau, Benue and Taraba continue to suffer deadly attacks on rural communities.
