Climate plan to 2035 will cost Nigeria $336.5bn, says NCCC
PauseandPonderTV · Sun, 1 Nov 2026About $195bn is for cutting emissions and $141.5bn for coping with floods, heat and other impacts.
Nigeria will need about $336.5 billion between 2026 and 2035 to carry out its climate action plan, according to the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
The council's Director-General, Tenioye Majekodunmi, said roughly $195 billion of that would go to mitigation, meaning cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and $141.5 billion to adaptation, helping communities cope with the effects of a changing climate.
She said the spending could create jobs and make the economy more resilient, especially in energy, agriculture and infrastructure.
Nigeria has been hit hard by flooding in recent years, with homes, farmland and roads swept away in several states, which makes adaptation funding a pressing issue for many communities.
The figure is being promoted ahead of an investment summit on the sidelines of the COP31 climate talks in Antalya, Türkiye, on 13 November.
