Troops have fought off insurgent attacks on two military locations in the North-East, killing 48 fighters, according to the military.

Captain Mohammed Goni, acting media officer for Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, said the attacks took place on 29 and 30 October at Bitta in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and at the North East Theatre Training School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

He said the attackers were Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. One soldier was killed and two others suffered minor injuries and are being treated.

Troops recovered 42 AK-47 rifles, nine machine guns, a 60mm mortar, 105 rifle magazines, two video cameras and about 5,000 rounds of ammunition, according to the statement.

The military's figures could not be independently confirmed. The report came as Defence Headquarters said attacks across its operation areas fell sharply in October.
